Can You Stop Doing Stupid Shit Today?
Not you, this is my Note to Self
In a former life, I had a side job to connect people’s smart homes to the internet and teach them how to use it. It was something that I really enjoyed doing. I met interesting people, and the smiles on their faces after they got their internet lesson was priceless. One of my customers was an elderly couple. Hanging on the wall in their formal dining room was a painting of an elegant young woman sitting in a chair. I asked the husband if that was his wife. He said, “Yes. That’s my wife before she went to seed.” I met his wife later that day. It turned out that she and I were born in the same hospital 15 years apart!
I prided myself in being able to keep our home and wireless devices connected to the internet. Calling customer support for help wasn’t in my job description. That all changed last week when we lost our internet. I used my phone as a hotspot to my laptop so I could do self-diagnostics on our modem and router. When nothing worked, I clenched my jaw and dialed Spectrum’s support line.
The support technician tried his best to solve the issue. He finally put me in the queue for a tech to come to the house the following day. That wasn’t good enough for me. I was convinced our modem shit the bed. So I disconnected the modem and router and headed off to the Spectrum…
