Don’t Be Afraid of the Retina Doctor’s Office
I’m sitting in my retina doctor’s waiting room. This time the other people in the waiting room are older than me. Everyone is wearing a mask because we are responsible human beings during the pandemic. There’s a sign on the door that says you can’t be treated without a mask. How’s that for an incentive to wear one?
Due to COVID restrictions, none of us patients are allowed to bring family or friends with us. That’s family and friends who give us moral support.
An elderly woman walked up to the reception desk. She can’t find her Country Magazine. The staff graciously ripped apart the dark room and exam rooms trying to find it. They’re too kind to tell the woman that a kleptomaniac probably thought it belonged to the doctor’s office and took it home. Now I have to look up County Magazine to see what the fuss was about. Maybe I’m missing something.
The retina doctor’s exam rooms are pretty scary. There’s the usual eye doctor equipment and some nice pictures hanging on the walls. It’s just that every other picture on the wall is an illustration of an eyeball. An eyeball complete with veins. I’m sorry, but I don’t do well at Halloween and other people’s blood, guts, and veins. Now I have to cope with looking at a naked eyeball. With veins.
