I Never Said I Married Mr. Romance
The story of Snow White and Prince Charming would never work at our house.
Ahh…romance. We all dream of being swept off our feet by Prince Charming, galloping off into the sunset riding white stallions. I used to think when you find “the one,” romance will follow.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
I met “the one” on the internet. He lived in Florida. I come from Pennsylvania. I was attracted to his warped sense of humor and the fact that he could read people like a book. Hopping on a plane and flying to Florida on the spur of the moment to see him was exciting. I never knew what to expect from the time the plane landed to when I came home. I didn’t give it a second thought. Was it because I was 40 and had no fear? Probably.
He asked me to marry him in 1997. He didn’t give me an engagement ring or get down on one knee when he asked me. I announced our engagement during dinner at my parents’ home. I still remember the look on Dad’s face. He set his fork down on his plate.
I watched as Dad tried to organize his thoughts about what he wanted to say.
“Diane, you’re almost 40 years old. You’re not young anymore. You’ve worked at the same company for over twenty years. Your kids live…
