I Wore a Mask for COVID-19 and It Saved My Face
Who knew a mask would do more than offer COVID-19 protection?
I put a mask on before I walked into my therapist’s office building. It was the first time in months that I had a face to face session with her. I was thrilled to use my six hours of respite outside of the house! One hour of therapy, then five hours of winging it and doing what the f#ck I wanted was just what the doctor ordered. Don’t get me wrong…I love the hell out of my husband, but I needed a break. I’m sure he needed one too, but he’ll never admit it.
I normally pull my mask off after therapy when I’m outside of the building, then walk to my car. This time I left it on. I was probably pre-occupied. I still can’t remember what I was thinking. As I walked to my car, I tripped on a cement slab that was 1" higher than the rest.
The next scene seemed like it was happening in slow motion. It was like being in one of those Bounty commercials. I put my left hand out to catch myself before I hit the pavement. Even slower was the way my face smacked the cement. My chin hit first, then my nose, and finally my forehead. Then it was over. My Apple watch sent me a notification. It said it detected a fall. It asked if I was okay. Well, hell no, I’m not okay. The watch also wanted to know if it should call 911. I knew I didn’t need an ambulance, but I wasn’t…
