Without Alto Reed, “Turn the Page” would be just another song

December 2020 was a blur for me. Mom passed away from COVID-19 that month and I shut down. I didn’t read or listen to news, was basically silent on Facebook and Twitter, and ignored most of my emails. It will be always be known as the month I couldn’t breathe.

Now it’s May, 2021 and I’m almost better. While catching up on Twitter, I read a tweet by Sean Mcdowell (@dvesean) that mentioned Alto Reed had passed away on December 30, 2020. If you’ve never heard of Alto Reed, he was in the Bob Seger Silver Bullet Band. He played the saxophone in Bob Seger’s “Turn the Page” song. Wait. Let me rephrase that. Alto Reed WAS the song.

I waited in line for five hours at Kaufmann’s department store to buy tickets for the Bob Seger concert scheduled on September 11, 1986. Just as I got to the ticket window, the concert sold out.
