Who knew an opossum could make you feel important?
Opossums do more than eat ticks. Apparently they feed egos, too.
I wish made this story up, but it really happened. My husband, our Miniature Schnauzer, and I were waiting in the receptionist’s line at our vet’s office. Murphy was due for his annual checkup.
The place was busy. Everyone wore masks and maintained social distancing. We weren’t in a hurry. The receptionist was taking care of customers as fast as she could. Everyone courteously waited their turn in line. It was like we were all having our Kumbaya moment at the same time.
A man rushed into the reception area, cut the line and pushed himself up to the desk. Let’s call him Mr. You Don’t Matter. My first thought was, “How rude,” and the expressions on the faces of other people waiting in line said the same. I noticed him holding a furry animal, but I couldn’t see it’s head. At first glance, I couldn’t tell what it was. It hit me once I saw its fur. Mr. You Don’t Matter was holding an opossum!
He interrupted the receptionist and next customer, demanding that his animal be seen next by a vet. Mr. You Don’t Matter made the mistake of saying, “He’s in commercials!” I looked at my husband…
